Ryan Smith

Ryan Smith is our Interim President and CEO, helping to make the vision of Graphite a reality. He is constantly looking to transform the way patients experience healthcare, finding new ways to apply digital capabilities and leveraging integrated technology and data intelligence.

Ryan’s vision for transformation extends from the landscape of his backyard to the mountains of healthcare. He tirelessly works to design and improve, whether it be a patch of earth or a program patch. Ryan has been nationally and internationally recognized as a CIO, with over 25 years experience in information technology. Prior to Graphite, Ryan was CIO of Intermountain, where he oversaw information technology across the Intermountain enterprise; and before that, he was SVP and executive advisor at Health Catalyst, where he advised healthcare executives on enterprise data and digital strategies. He was previously SVP and CIO at Banner Health, one of the nation’s largest not-for-profit healthcare systems, where he helped create the organization’s recognized digital business capabilities.

Ryan is a frequent speaker on the topics of healthcare IT strategy, digital transformation, enterprise data and analytics strategy, IT governance, strategic vendor alignment, and consumer digital experience. He has served as a board member at Health Current, Arizona’s statewide health information exchange, while also serving on numerous advisory boards across the high tech and HIT sectors. He participates in multiple healthcare industry organizations, including College of Health Information Management Executives (CHIME), and Healthcare Information and Management Systems Society (HIMSS).

Following a passion for software engineering that began at age 12, Ryan taught himself BASIC programming on an original 8086 desktop PC in junior high, and continued into formal education at the University of Utah, where he received a bachelors degree in Computer Science, and later a Masters of Business Administration from Western Governor’s University.

When Ryan isn't busy designing the digital building blocks for the future of healthcare, he enjoys hanging out with his wife and five kids and spending time outdoors in the Wasatch Back of Utah.
